Operators in European countries that have not forwarded the NUTS 2 values in the new units (grCO2eq / Kg of dry matter) to the European Commission have three alternatives for drafting the sustainability claims, for managing and communicating GHG emissions in the supply chain for biofuels.
1 – Use the total default value of the biofuel production pathway in grCO2 /MJ as per Annex V, sections A and B. To do this, auditors must check the correct use of values, and the sustainability claim statement, “Use of the total default values”, in the supply chain.
2 – Use the disaggregated default values in grCO2eq/ MJ of biofuel, as per Annex V, Tables D and E. Sustainability declarations of certified operators in the supply chain from the raw material collection to the last processing entity shall include the “Use of disaggregated default values” which have been used.
3- Calculate according to a harmonized and verifiable approach, using conversion and allocation factors by production step the actual values in KgCO2eq / dry ton of raw material or intermediate product, as per section C methodology, Annex V. The hypothesis of combining the disaggregated value of etd into grCO2eq / MJ by the last interface is possible. Sustainability claims of certified upstream operators must specify the values calculated in KgCO2eq / ton of raw material and intermediate product. The last interface must convert the total emissions of EB, into grCO2eq / MJ of biofuel and specify the reduction (%) of GHG emissions obtained.
