2BSvs Co-processing: everything you need to know about this new certifiable production method

2BS sustainability certification was recently recognised by the European Commission regarding its co-processing procedures.

This represents an extension to the scope of 2BS certification. Thanks to the development of a specific procedure, you are now able to integrate the co-processing method into your production process via our certification process.

With this extension, you can combine renewable materials with fossil ones in the same process, while complying with RED II requirements.

To learn more about this certification, check out below.

3 things to know about our sustainability certification for the Co-processing method.

1 – What is co-processing?

Co-processing typically refers to an oil refinery unit processing biomass feedstock together with fossil feedstock and transforming it into final fuels.

This final fuel contains a portion derived from biogenic sources, such as biofuels, bioliquids, and biogas.

2 – The certification background

Our 2BSvs Biofuel certification is based on the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II).

This directive promotes the use of energy from renewable sources to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions in European countries. To this end, the RED establishes a regulatory structure and strict sustainability criteria.

The directive’s objectives require all players in the biofuels supply chain to be certified in order to access the sustainable market – and the 2BSvs certification, based on the RED II demands, answers this request.

3 – What is verified during the 2BS co-processing audit?

The company being audited must have a documented procedure describing the co-processing approach in order to ensure the sustainability and regulatory compliance of its co-processing activities, thereby contributing to a transparent and accountable production system.

Points that shall be verified:

  • A mapping of processes and facilities.
  • The specified start date of operations
  • A provided list of all covered sites.
