About 2BS
2BS - Biomass, Biofuels Sustainability is a non-profit association.
Since our creation, our mission has been to support fuel and biomass producers and traders in their sustainability certification.
Our origins under the RED directive
Born in 2012, our association was founded following the publication of the Renewable Energy Directive (RED).
The RED was published and implemented by the European Commission in order to promote energy from renewable sources and thus facilitate the reduction of greenhouse gases in European countries.
To this end, the directive establishes a regulatory framework and sustainability criteria for biofuels, bioliquids and biomass fuels.
To translate these requirements and enable players to market their products under the sustainable label, the 2BS voluntary scheme was created.
Implementation of the 2BS voluntary scheme
This project was undertaken with the help of experts in the field. Thanks to our collaboration with these experts from the agriculture and fuels worlds, we were able to develop our first 2BSvs biofuel certification.
Our team and our founding members have translated the requirements of the Renewable Energy Directive into a guideline that can be applied in the field. Our guideline is simple and efficient, making it easier to comply with sustainability standards.
Implementing the 2BS guideline enables you to obtain the 2BSvs certification, recognized by the European Commission.
Our 2BSvs certification attests that biomass and biofuel products meet the RED sustainability criteria: by complying with our procedures and standards, all players throughout the supply chain can demonstrate their alignment to the European Union’s regulatory requirements on sustainability.
The 2BS scheme is implemented by a network of certification bodies.

A decade of commitment and expansion
For over 10 years now, our association has been committed to helping customers demonstrate their sustainability.
In 2023, we decided to perpetuate our mission and expand our certifications. To this end, we have launched a new offering, the biogas sustainability certification.
Like its predecessor, this new certification helps players to demonstrate the sustainability of biogas and biomethane. The 2BSvs-biogas certification has also been recognized by the European Commission, enabling products to be marketed under the sustainable label.
Today, we develop tools that facilitate the certification process for our customers.
And we remain true to our commitment by continuing to develop new certifications of sustainability.
