2BSvs - Waste and residues
2BSvs- Sustainability certification for the waste and residues supply chain
Our 2BSvs – Waste and residues certification is based on the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II).
This directive promotes the use of energy from renewable sources to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions in European countries. To this end, the RED establishes a regulatory structure and strict sustainability criteria.
The RED II Directive establishes rules for determining whether energy from biomass (the biodegradable fraction of products, waste and residues of biological origin) can be considered renewable.
Companies processing and recovering this waste must comply with these rules if their energy production is to be officially recognized as sustainable.
To meet these objectives, our association has developed 2BSvs certification, based on the RED II directive.

Who is concerned by this certification?
The energy productions concerned are :
- the production of electricity or heating/cooling from solid biomass: for WTE (Waste-to-Energy) plants, SRF (Solid Recovered Fuel) boiler rooms;
- the production of electricity or heating/cooling from biogas: for non-hazardous waste storage facilities or methanization plants, depending on how the biogas produced is used for energy;
- biomethane production: for ISDND or methanization plants with biogas valorization into biomethane.
Application scope of the waste and residues certification
This certification is applicable to all players in the supply chain of waste sent for energy production (biomass fuels for transport and/or the production of heat, cooling and electricity) worldwide who wish to sell their products in the European Union.
The 2BS sustainability certification system covers everything from the collection of inputs (waste) to the transformation into intermediate products and the production of biomass fuels.
Good to know
2BS certification is available for 5 years, on the condition that annual audits are organised.
In summary, we offer a sustainability certification and work with referenced certification bodies trained by our team to carry out initial and annual audits.
How do I get certified as a sustainable player?
First, contact our team to learn more about our offer.
Once you have signed a contract with us and with a referenced Certification Body, you can schedule the initial audit of your site.
Please, note: the process of preparation for the certification can take up to 6 months, given the time required to recover site documentation and production data. However, once certified, 2BSvs certification is valid for 5 years, provided that annual audits are organised.
And to help you along the way, we’ve put at your disposal a range of certification tools.
Waste and residues sustainability certification recognized by the European Commission
The 2BSvs guideline complies with the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II).
Our sustainability certification is recognized by the European Commission, enabling products to be marketed under the “sustainable” label.
The 2BSvs certificate is equivalent to all Voluntary Schemes recognized by the European Commission.
The certificate also enables you to market your products in all European countries.
