Context of the Union Database (UDB)
Under the RED II Directive, a European database (Union Database) can be set up to ensure the traceability of all transactions throughout the supply chain of biofuels and other renewable fuels* used for transport (excluding fuels derived from solid biomass).
- fuel includes biofuels, bioliquids, biomass fuels, renewable liquid and gaseous transport fuels of non-biological origin, and recycled carbon fuels (Implementing Regulation 2022/996).
Next steps
- From 15 January 2024: Economic Operators in the biofuel supply chain have the possibilty of registering various information on the UDB platform, including their initial stock, mass balance start date, production start date, sustainable material transactions, and more.
- From the second Quarter : Economic Operators in the biogas supply chain will also have access to the new features listed above. Exact dates will be announced shortly.
