2BSvs- Sustainability certification for the biofuels supply chain
Our 2BSvs Biofuel certification is based on the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II).
This directive promotes the use of energy from renewable sources to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions in European countries. To this end, the RED establishes a regulatory structure and strict sustainability criteria.
The directive’s objectives require all players in the biofuels, bioliquids and biomass fuels chain to be certified by national or voluntary schemes such as 2BS, in order to access the sustainable market.
To achieve these objectives, our association has developed the 2BSvs certification, based on the RED II demands.
Application scope of the biofuel certification
This certification is applicable to all organizations in the biofuels and bioliquids production and distribution supply chain, worldwide, who wish to sell their products in the European Union.
The 2BS certification system covers biomass production, from the first gathering point to the processing units and production of biofuels, bioliquids and biomass fuels.
Purpose of the certification
Our sustainability certification allows products to be marketed in Europe under the “sustainable” label.
How the 2BSvs biofuel certification works
2BS certification is available for 5 years, on the condition that annual audits are organised.
In summary, we offer a sustainability certification and we work with certification bodies referenced and trained by our team to carry out the initial and annual audits.
How to be certified
First, contact our team to learn more about our offer.
Once you have signed a contract with us and with a referenced Certification Body, you can schedule the initial audit of your site.
Please, note: the process of preparation for the certification can take up to 6 months, given the time required to recover site documentation and production data. However, once certified, 2BSvs certification is valid for 5 years, provided that annual audits are organised.

Sustainability certification recognized by the European Commission
The 2BSvs standard complies with the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II). Our sustainability certification is recognized by the European Commission, allowing products to be marketed under the “sustainable” label.
The 2BSvs certificate is equivalent to and opposable to all Voluntary Schemes recognized by the European Commission. The certificate also enables you to market your products in all European countries.

2BS certification comprises three documents: the self-declaration, the sustainability declaration and the proof of sustainability.
The self-declaration contains information on compliance with sustainability criteria and the type of methodology used to calculate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The sustainability declaration identifies the material, its sustainability criteria and all activities related to greenhouse gas emissions throughout the chain.
The proof of sustainability provides essential information on the product’s sustainability criteria and the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, compared with its fossil reference.
